Imagine waking up to a world where the clarity of your vision is fading away. This is the reality for those grappling with macular degeneration, a common eye condition that primarily affects older adults.

Fortunately, new treatments for macular degeneration are beginning to appear. One such treatment is MacuMira, which has been shown to slow the progression of macular degeneration and preserve vision.

What Is Macular Degeneration?

Macular degeneration or age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive eye condition that primarily affects central vision, while leaving peripheral vision intact. It’s caused by damage to or thinning of the macula, a collection of cells on the retina that’s responsible for our central vision.

There are 2 main types of macular degeneration—dry and wet:

  • Dry macular degeneration is more common and progresses slowly.
  • Wet macular degeneration is less common but progresses more rapidly.

Age is a significant risk factor for macular degeneration, with the likelihood of developing the condition increasing as people age. Other risk factors include:

  • Genetics
  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity

Symptoms of Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration rarely causes symptoms in its early stages—which is why it’s important to schedule regular comprehensive eye exams.

When symptoms begin, they typically consist of blurred vision or the appearance of dark spots in the center of your field of view, which can make it challenging to focus on objects directly in front of you.

As the condition progresses, you may experience a loss of central vision. In some cases, straight lines may appear wavy or distorted, and colours might seem less vibrant.

Introducing MacuMira

MacuMira is a new treatment option for those coping with dry AMD. MacuMira works by delivering a micro current to stimulate the retinal pigment epithelium, improving blood flow and stimulating the production of cellular components that improve macular health.

The treatment is performed with the patient’s eyes closed, and offers a quick and convenient option to manage vision health.

Who Can Benefit from MacuMira?

MacuMira is designed for those with macular degeneration who want to slow the progression of the condition. The suitability of MacuMira depends on various factors, including:

  • The stage of the disease
  • Overall health conditions
  • Previous treatment history

Patients need to undergo a thorough evaluation by their eye care specialists to determine if MacuMira is the right fit for their treatment plan.

Potential Side Effects of MacuMira

MacuMira has a minimal risk profile. It doesn’t involve invasive procedures or drugs, so patients can undergo treatment with peace of mind, knowing that side effects are rare.

However, while the procedure is safe, patients should always discuss any concerns that they have about treatment with their eyecare practitioner. Each patient’s situation is unique, and professionals can provide personalized advice and guidance.

How Is MacuMira Administered?

Administering MacuMira is a straightforward process that requires only a certified eyecare practitioner or an ophthalmic technician. The patient is comfortably seated with closed eyes, and the micro-current therapy is applied.

The entire procedure is designed to be simple and stress-free, lasting just 32 minutes per session.

Throughout the treatment, the practitioner monitors the patient’s comfort and provides support as needed. This ensures a positive experience and helps patients feel at ease.

The full treatment schedule spans over 10 days, and may result in noticeable improvements in vision and overall eye health.

Consulting with Your Eye Doctor About MacuMira

Before beginning any new treatment, maintain open communication with your eye doctor. They can provide valuable insights into whether MacuMira aligns with your treatment goals and individual circumstances, taking into account your medical history and any existing conditions.

Be sure to ask any questions you may have about the procedure itself, potential outcomes, and the necessary follow-up care to achieve the best results.
