COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM
A thorough eye examination is just the beginning…
Our friendly receptionists are the first smiling faces you’ll see when you visit our office. To complement our modern facilities our knowledgeable visual testing team works with the latest technologies to best assess the health of your eyes. Next you’ll meet one of Dr. Kettner, Dr. Westfall or Dr. Gautier. They will complete the exam by inspecting your eyes, discussing eye care solutions and addressing all of your questions. When you visit our office you will leave completely satisfied and confident with our doctors, staff and services!
With our years of experience in diagnosing and treating vision disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, amblyopia, presbyopia, cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy the iSight team is equipped to provide appropriate therapeutic medical eye care.
Children should have their first complete eye exam at six months of age, at three years, before entering school and regularly thereafter.
At iSight Optometry, we are completely equipped to test your child’s eyes even if he/she does not know how to read. Vision screenings offered by family doctors and the school district are a great tool in detecting certain eye conditions, but a full examination of visual function and ocular health by an optometrist provides a much better indication of overall eye health. Many serious eye conditions don’t have any obvious symptoms. A thorough eye exam by an optometrist is the only way to know for sure
The optomap ultra-widefield retinal image is a unique technology that captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image while traditional imaging methods typically only show 15% of your retina at one time. The Optomap Retinal Exam scans your retina to create a picture or map, giving your doctor a more detailed view. It is fast, easy and comfortable. The Optomap Retinal Exam helps identify healthy eyes and detects the presence of disease. These retinal images are a great asset to your medical record as they allow your eye doctor to make important comparisons if potential problems show themselves at a future examination.
Reading the letter chart gives a measure of vision when looking straight ahead, however it is also important to know if peripheral vision is normal.
Visual field tests are used to check that each eye can see well in all areas of your eyesight including your side, or peripheral, vision. At iSight Optometry we have sophisticated equipment to analyse the sensitivity of the field of vision. Eye conditions such as glaucoma reduce the sensitivity of parts of the visual field and perhaps surprisingly most patients are completely unaware of these changes until the condition progresses to an advanced stage. Patients who have suffered from a stroke can also have loss of a part of the visual field.
Some other conditions which may cause a loss of visual field: Glaucoma, Stroke, Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), Retinal Detachment, Optic nerve damage, Vascular disease, Head Trauma, Brain Tumour
iSight Optometry offers Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in office. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina.
With OCT, each of the retina’s distinctive layers can be seen, allowing our doctors to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help with early detection, diagnosis and treatment guidance for retinal diseases and conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and glaucoma among others. The test is easy to conduct and the scan only takes a few seconds to complete.
At iSight Optometry we now conduct pre-screening tests prior to an eye examination.
These tests are conducted by one of our trained Optical Assistants and use automated equipment to take measurements from each eye. These sophisticated instruments measure central corneal curvature and thickness, refractive error (the amount of long or short sightedness), and the pressure in the eye (with a puff of air). The tests are straightforward, painless and only take a few minutes to do and assist the optometrist to complete a thorough eye examination.
